Lifts (Passenger & Domestic Lifting Equipment)
At One Vision Housing (OVH), your safety is our priority. We inspect, maintain and monitor passenger lifts and home lifting equipment to help keep them safe, reliable and ready to use. Below, you’ll find important information about lift safety, how to report a fault, and what to do in an emergency.
Passenger lifts
Passenger lifts are located in the shared areas of flats and high-rise buildings and are designed to carry people and their belongings between floors. OVH carries out regular servicing, maintenance and safety checks to help keep lifts safe, reliable and working properly.
-
Using passenger lifts safely
Please:
- Follow safety instructions displayed in and around the lift.
- Supervise children when using lifts.
- Keep lift doors and entrances clear of obstructions.
- Report faults or safety concerns promptly.
- Check the lift weight limit before moving heavy items.
Please do not:
- Force lift doors open.
- Tamper with lift controls or emergency equipment.
- Use a lift that is out of service.
- Exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL).
- Attempt to move oversized items that may obstruct the lift.
-
Trapped in a lift?
If you become trapped inside a passenger lift:
- Stay calm.
- Press the emergency alarm or call button.
- Wait for assistance and follow instructions from the monitoring team or lift engineer.
- Do not attempt to force the doors open or leave the lift without assistance.
Many lifts are connected to an emergency communication system, allowing help to be arranged quickly. If there is a medical emergency, call 999.

Some lifts are fitted with a fire recall system that automatically returns the lift to a designated floor when a fire alarm is activated.
