Our continued commitment to LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge

Published: 3/4/2025

In December we proudly made the “Pledge Promise” to the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge by HouseProud. This year we are implementing processes and identifying gaps to reach ‘Pledge Pioneer’ and become more inclusive.

What is the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge?

The LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge was developed by HouseProud and the University of Surrey, in collaboration with customers, staff members and sector leaders.

HouseProud’s research revealed that 60% of trans customers did not feel safe in their neighbourhoods, while 1 in 5 gay men reported hiding their sexual orientation from an operative or housing officer. With this pledge, we will take the necessary steps to improve the lives and homes of our LGBTQ+ customers.

Our Journey Towards “Pledge Pioneer”

Following our “Pledge Promise” we have been conducting a thorough gap analysis and have identified actions to improve our inclusivity:

  • Ensuring LGBTQ+ Voices Shape Our Services – Following an insightful HouseProud presentation to our Customer Voice EDI forum, we are actively encouraging our LGBTQ+ customers to share their valuable perspectives. Their direct input will be crucial in understanding how we can adapt our homes and services.
  • Increasing LGBTQ+ Visibility – We are passionate about actively supporting and continuing to support the local LGBTQ+ community through various initiatives. This includes celebrating Pride events, supporting the Navajo Awards, and proudly sponsoring Inclusion FC, an LGBTQ+ football team, alongside an Inclusion FC Family Fun Day.
  • LGBTQ+ training for all our staff – Knowledge and understanding is fundamental to providing inclusive services. Our priority is to implement LGBTQ+ awareness training for all our staff members.

One Vision Housing are committed to improving our services and creating safe and welcoming communities for all.
