LEGO brings a sense of nostalgia to Kenyons Lodge

Published: 5/11/2025

Last week, customers at Kenyons Lodge retirement scheme demonstrated creative imagination and camaraderie during a successful LEGO workshop.

The fun-filled afternoon was organised by Independent Living Officer, David Barnfield in collaboration with the NW Brick Community, run by Gary Foxcroft. A non-profit organisation whose goal is to bring people together using the power of LEGO, their workshops are designed to help:

  • Boost mental health and wellbeing
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration
  • Give participants a sense of accomplishment

A sense of nostalgia

A total of 16 customers took part in the workshop, spending two hours absorbed in the world of building. With trays of colourful bricks laid out in various sizes, it pushed everyone to use their imaginations and be as creative as possible.

Stirring a strong sense of childhood nostalgia, residents worked together on their unique creations with enthusiasm. The room was full of fun and focus as they worked on their models and showed off their finished pieces.

Independent Living Officer, David Barnfield, said:

“The atmosphere was incredible! Hearing that all participants described the workshop as brilliant is the best feedback we could ask for and they have already requested to have the NW Brick Community back again soon. It clearly shows how much joy these workshops bring to our customers.”

A customer who took part in the workshop, said:

“I haven’t touched LEGO in decades, but it kept me fully engaged for the whole two hours. The feeling when we finished our models was wonderful and it was just so much fun doing it together with my neighbours. I would love to do this again.”

A sense of community

Events like these are a great example of how community activities can make a huge difference to the lives of our customers and can help:

  • Build new connections between neighbours
  • Ignite creativity and keep the mind active
  • Boost overall wellbeing

We look forward to delivering more exciting and engaging activities that support the wellbeing of our customers.
