Damp, mould and condensation can happen in any season – here’s how to prevent it!
Published: 5/9/2026
When people think about damp, mould and condensation, they often associate them with the colder months. However, condensation can occur at any time of year, including during warmer weather, when everyday activities such as cooking, bathing and drying clothes indoors create moisture in the home.
Following a few simple steps can help reduce excess moisture and keep your home safe and healthy.
Open windows regularly
Opening windows, even for a short time each day, helps fresh air circulate and reduces moisture before it settles on walls and windows.
Keep internal doors open
Keeping internal doors open helps air move around your home, improving airflow and reducing trapped moisture.
Dry your washing outside
Drying clothes outdoors helps reduce moisture in your home and lowers the risk of condensation and mould. If you need to dry clothes indoors, keep the room well ventilated by opening windows and doors.
Move furniture away from walls
Leave a small gap between furniture and external walls to improve airflow and reduce the risk of damp and mould.
Use extractor fans when cooking or showering
Cooking and bathing create extra moisture in your home. Open windows and use extractor fans during and after these activities to help reduce condensation.
