Beware of rogue traders!
Published: 2/1/2025
We’ve received reports of individuals falsely claiming to be from One Vision Housing or the local council, attempting to gain entry to customer homes for various reasons.
Important Safety Measures
To protect yourself from these individuals:
- Never allow anyone into your home unless you have verified their identity.
- Always ask for and check official identification. One Vision Housing and Sovini Property Services employees will carry photo identification cards.
- Do not provide any personal information or financial details to anyone you are unsure about.
- Never agree to any work or pay for any services from someone who unexpectedly knocks on your door.
- If you suspect someone may not be genuine, refuse entry and contact One Vision Housing directly.
-
Verifying employee identity
- Contact One Vision Housing directly to verify the identity of any individual claiming to be from our organisation.
- Do not rely on phone numbers provided by the individual at your door.
-
Common tactics used by rogue traders
- Creating a sense of urgency – They may claim to have identified a serious problem that needs immediate attention.
- Pressuring you into making quick decisions – They may pressure you into agreeing to expensive repairs without giving you time to consider your options.
- Insisting on cash payments: This makes it difficult to track them down if problems arise.
-
What to do if you suspect a rogue trader
- Contact One Vision Housing immediately.
- Report the incident to the police.
- Gather any information you have about the individuals involved.
For further information or to report any suspicious activity, please contact One Vision Housing directly on 0300 365 1111 or enquiries@ovh.org.uk.
