A safe space for men to find peer support

Published: 3/4/2026

Everyday life can be challenging, and often can feel like we have to carry the weight of it alone. But we don’t have to be alone! If you’re feeling isolated, are impacted by your mental health or simply find it hard to move forward… a local initiative is here to help.

The Joseph Lappin Centre is running a free, 10 week Men’s Peer Support Group and is facilitated by a trained psychotherapist. It is designed to provide a safe and supportive space for men to discuss openly about real-life challenges, including:

  • Mental health and anxiety
  • Relationships and masculinity
  • Dealing with anger or shame
  • Making sense of past experiences
  • Finding a sense of direction

The power of peer support

Sometimes, just being able to talk to people who would understand can be helpful. Men who have attended previous groups shared that they highly valued:

  • Being able to talk openly and honestly without any fear of judgement
  • Realising they’re not the only ones struggling
  • Building a genuine sense of belonging and accountability
  • Solidarity and sharing a laugh in the middle of tough times
