Sefton’s children lead the way to cleaner neighbourhoods
Published: 3/7/2025
Following an inspiring initiative launched earlier this year, One Vision Housing, in partnership with Sefton Council and the Strand Partnership celebrated local schoolchildren’s vital role in tackling fly-tipping and boosting community spirit.
The celebration highlighted ‘Social Signature’ projects by young people across the borough, including the #SpotlessSeaforth campaign. This campaign stemmed from an anti-fly-tipping poster competition launched in April.
As part of the original initiative, students from eight Sefton schools learned about the dangers of fly-tipping and responsible waste disposal. Their winning poster designs will become signs on alleyway gates in their neighborhoods, acting as a visual deterrent.
Neil Kenwright, Head of Housing at One Vision Housing, commented,
“By engaging with children at this age, we’re generating a sense of responsibility and environmental awareness that will last a lifetime. They are the future generation of our communities, and their understanding is key to creating cleaner, safer spaces and a better future for everyone.”
The recent celebration event, hosted by Lewis Dinsdale, Headteacher at English Martyrs Primary, showcased the diverse “Social Signature” projects undertaken by the children.
Attendees at the event included representatives from One Vision Housing, Sefton Council, various Councillors, Peter Dowd MP, and Peter Hawkins from the Windmills Foundation underscoring the collaborative effort behind these community-driven initiatives. Peter Hawkins from the Windmills Foundation also shared insights into the power of social action.
One Vision Housing remains committed to its comprehensive Alleyway Strategic Action Plan, working hand-in-hand with Sefton Council to engage, educate, and enforce measures against fly-tipping. This includes enhanced surveillance and legal action against those who disregard responsible waste disposal.
