Our commitment towards safeguarding our community

Published: 4/1/2026

We believe everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and communities. We are always here to support you during difficult times, however our primary focus is on prevention – acting before abuse and neglect have the chance to begin.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the term widely used to protect people from harm. We have clear safeguarding policies in place and work closely with partner agencies, including Merseyside Police to ensure our customers and communities remain safe.

Abuse can take many forms, including:

  • Physical or sexual abuse
  • Neglect
  • Financial abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Self-neglect
  • Domestic abuse

What to do if you’re concerned?

We understand the impact abuse and neglect has on victims, their families, and the wider community. If you see or hear anything that causes you concern and relates to the safety or wellbeing of an individual, please immediately contact us by:

  • Calling: 0300 365 1111
  • Emailing: enquiries@ovh.org.uk
  • Informing your Neighbourhood Services Officer

In any situation where there is an active threat to life or safety, please call 999 immediately.

In the event that you suspect the safeguarding issue involves an employee, please call the Independent Living Team on 0300 365 1111.

How we will support you

If you report abuse directly to us, we will:

  1. Listen to your concerns
  2. Treat information confidentially
  3. Keep you informed
  4. Provide you with support
  5. Ensure your immediate safety

If we suspect abuse is taking place, we are duty bound to pass on this information to the appropriate local authority to investigate and take further action.
