What is a mutual exchange?

A mutual exchange is a brilliant scheme that allows you to swap your home with another One Vision Housing customer, or even a tenant from a council or other social landlord anywhere in the UK. It’s all about finding the right fit for you and your family, with our support along the way.

How does it work?

Getting started is easy. The first step is to register with a national home swap service. We recommend two great options:

• Home Swapper – This is the UK’s largest home swapping service, with over 130,000 homes available for exchange. You’ll have plenty of choice to find a property that’s just right for you.
• Property Pool Plus – If you’re already registered with Property Pool Plus, you can simply log in to your account and complete a new mutual exchange application.

Once you’ve registered and found a potential swap, you’ll need to complete a mutual exchange application. Your Neighbourhood Housing Manager will be on hand to offer support and give their consent.

What happens next?

Once we receive your application, we’ll review it and get back to you with a decision.

If your application is approved:

• We’ll let you know in writing.
• We’ll arrange to inspect your home to make sure everything is in order.
• We’ll ask you to sign a new tenancy agreement and a form to confirm the exchange. We’ll also guide you on how to update your housing or council tax benefit details if needed.

It’s important to remember that if you’re swapping with a tenant from another landlord, they will also need to get approval and have all their documents signed and in order.

If your application is not approved:

• Don’t worry! We will always write to you to explain the reasons for our decision.
• Sometimes, we might agree to the exchange on the condition that you do something first. If this is the case, we’ll explain exactly what you need to do in writing.
