Important information about your electricity meter
Published: 3/7/2025
Here at One Vision Housing, we’re letting you know about an important change concerning a certain type of old electricity meter that might be in your home. If you think you have one, it’s really important to get in touch with your electricity supplier.
This is all about something called an RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) meter. These meters are being phased out across the country, with the final switch-off happening from Monday 30th June 2025.
What exactly is an RTS meter?
- They’re often found in homes that have electric heating and hot water systems.
- They use a radio signal to switch between cheaper and more expensive electricity rates throughout the day.
- You might be able to spot one by looking for a separate switch box near your main electricity meter. This box will usually be labelled “Radio Teleswitch.”
Why is this important for you?
Your electricity supplier should have already been in touch with you about replacing your meter. It’s really important that you let them do this work. If you don’t, you could find that your heating and hot water stop working as expected, or you might end up with higher electricity bills.
Most of the time, your electricity supplier will swap your old RTS meter for a smart meter.
What should you do if you think you have one?
If you believe you have an RTS meter and your electricity supplier hasn’t contacted you yet, please get in touch with them as soon as possible. They can check for you and discuss what your options are.
Taking action now will help make sure everything runs smoothly when the old system is switched off. It will also help avoid any unexpected problems with your home’s electricity.
