Hate has no home here: Know your rights and get support
Published: 3/7/2025
Hate crime is a serious issue that affects individuals and entire communities. This Anti-Social Behaviour Week 2025 and beyond, One Vision Housing is taking a strong stand against it. We’re committed to protecting our customers and want to ensure you’re equipped with the information and support you need if you ever encounter hate, hostility, or prejudice.
What is Hate Crime?
Hate Crime is defined as “any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone based on their personal characteristic”
There are five main strands included, and they are as follows:
- Race or Ethnicity
- Religion or Beliefs
- Sexual Orientation
- Disability
- Transgender Identity
How do we respond to Hate Crime?
As part One Vision Housing’s commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour, we have implemented clauses within our tenancy agreements and our Policy and Procedures in relation to Hate Crime.
A case management system is used, which contains a risk assessment where we record and report a Hate Crime to Merseyside Police. We are fortunate within our area that Merseyside Police have a specialised unit who are dedicated to tackling hate crime in the Merseyside area.
If you receive a case that you believe may equate to a potential hate crime, then you should contact your relevant Community Safety Team Officer. They will open a case and in partnership with Merseyside Police, will deal with the incident via the local Hate Crime MARAC process.
