Universal Credit is a single monthly payment for people in or out of work on low income. It will replace six existing benefits and is currently being rolled out across the UK. The new system is based on a single monthly payment, transferred directly into a bank account.
Benefits will be paid to you electronically, such as through a bank account or credit union account, so it’s important that you start thinking about what type of account you would like your benefits to be paid into.
The following options are available to you:
- If you have an existing bank account you could arrange for your benefits to be paid into this
- You could contact a bank of your choice to set up an account with them
- If you want to set up a secure account to save money, another option is to contact Sefton Credit Union on 0151 928 9471 or visit http://www.seftoncreditunion.org/
For tenants in receipt of Universal Credit you will be required to pay your rent direct to One Vision Housing, unlike housing benefit which comes direct to us.
If you require any help or advice with applying for benefits, please contact our Financial Inclusion Team .
