Recommendation 4

The Chartered Institute of Housing should promote the traditional housing officer role as a supported and valued employment opportunity with a Chartered Institute of Housing recognised programme of training and continuing development.

What One Vision Housing has done to date so far

  • Training

We have established a comprehensive training and development programme, which includes resources for both qualified employees and those currently working towards qualifications. Our initiatives feature a relationship of equals training plan and enhancements to existing training content. External customer service training is also delivered through engaging real-life examples of role play activities. This was recorded to allow new starters to have access throughout onboarding and provide existing staff with an opportunity to enhance and refresh their knowledge. We have also undertaken a review of the competency and conduct standard and have been working on all recommendations highlighted in the HQN toolkit, to continually improve our processes and practices.

  • Code of behaviours

We have developed a code of behaviours in collaboration with involved tenants, ensuring that their voices are heard and incorporated into our working practices and behaviours. We have incorporated the core behaviours into our group annual appraisal framework. This is to allow for employee reflection and a tool to measure where they align and where further development is required.

  • Values based recruitment

The Group operates a values based recruitment model which allows us to recruit the best person for the job, and this is revisited during our annual appraisal process to continually monitor and measure staff performance against each value. We offer meaningful employment opportunities which are supported by a program of training and continuous development to help and support every employee in their career journey.

  • CIH and SHP programme

To further support the development of our workforce, we are actively enrolling our managers and heads of department in the Chartered Institute of Housing’s (CIH) Senior Housing Professional (SHP) program, as recommended by the Better Social Housing Review. Additionally, we are enrolling other housing staff in relevant CIH qualifications to enhance their professional development and contribute to the overall improvement of our services.
