International Older Persons Day

Published: 5/10/2024

Proving Age is Just a Number – and a great excuse for a party!

Members of One Vision Housing’s retirement scheme joined Sefton OPERA at the Beaky Social Club to commemorate International Older Persons Day 2024 with fun, food and friendship. This years Older Persons Day event was a significant milestone for Sefton OPERA as they marked their 25th anniversary of putting people first.

Started by the United Nations in 1991, International Day of Older Persons takes place annually on the 1st of October and celebrates the vital contributions older individuals bring to their communities.

In partnership with One Vision Housing and Weighmans Law Firm, Sefton OPERA organised a free event that brought together 40 older people from Sefton for a day of food, drinks, entertainment, socialising, and essential health and wellbeing support.

Guests enjoyed afternoon tea, a day filled with entertainment and a community atmosphere that celebrated and supported our older residents.

Sian Evans, partner at Weightmans, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative:

“As part of our ambition to be one of the UK’s most socially and environmentally conscious law firms, Weightmans is committed to creating better futures for the communities that we serve. By partnering with other organisations such as Sovini, who share this same goal, we can help bring about positive change, in this case to the lives of older people. We are delighted to support Sovini in this important initiative.”

Nicola Day, Customer Experience Manager at One Vision Housing added:

“Engaging with our customers is crucial to combating social isolation and creating inclusive communities. By partnering with organisations at the heart of our neighbourhoods, we can continue to make a positive impact within the areas we serve.”

This event was support by One Vision Housings Community Development Fund. A total of £15,000 is available each year for voluntary and community groups, more information and details on how to apply can be found HERE.
