Communities in Bloom
Published: 4/9/2021
As part of our commitment to enhance the environment through our operations, we partnered with local agencies over the summer to bring a bit of colour to green spaces in our communities.
Thanks to Group partners, Sovini Property Services, we were able to help community group, Taking Root, plant wildflowers across south Sefton.
Taking Root in Bootle links community growing, food and health projects across South Sefton, focusing on health, well-being and fun.
In addition to helping with their wildflower project, we were also able to support Taking Root at this year’s RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park where their Culture Clash border took home the gold.
Consisting of 3m x 3m pockets of planting, borders are the perfect opportunity to showcase small-scale planting designs. Taking Root’s Culture Clash border celebrates the community spirit of Bootle – changing small urban spaces into colourful places of reflection and connection.
The border demonstrates the urban culture clash – traditionally grey street corners transformed with colour. Planted with edibles and self-seeding plants, it shows a love of colour and nature, and the need for the great outdoors – made particularly evident during the pandemic.
Christine Leung, Taking Roots, said:
“I would like to thank One Vision Housing for helping us to bring our award-winning submission to the RHS Flower Show this year. The sense of civic pride, ambition and sheer determination of the volunteers involved in this project has been truly inspiring. We were proud to represent Bootle and showcase the importance of gardens and green spaces to our community.”
