The Benefits Cap was introduced in the borough of Sefton, between July-September this year. It means that there is now a limit on how much a non-working household can receive in benefits.
The limit has been set to match the average earnings in this country, and so it may change.
Currently the limits are:
£500 a week – for couples with or without children and/or single parents
£350 per week – for single people, not claiming as a couple
This cap will not apply to:
- Existing pensioners
- Households with one or more working tax claimant
- Those claiming certain disability benefits which include disability Living Allowance and Personal Independence Payments.
