Plaque unveiled at new housing development in honour of the Kings Regiment and Royal Artillery

Published: 2/11/2022

One Vision Housing and Sefton Council were joined by local veterans to celebrate the completion of a new housing development built on a historic site.

Located in Seaforth, the development named Kings Park includes 21 new high-quality affordable homes thanks to a £945k grant from Homes England.

Between 1882 and 1958 the site was home to The Royal Garrison Artillery, The Royal Field Artillery and The Kings Regiment Liverpool HQ Barracks.

One Vision Housing is part of the award-winning The Sovini Group, that seeks to build a better future through its development framework, aiming to combat high housing costs through the delivery of over 1,000 new good quality, affordable homes within the next five years.

Colleagues from across the Group were joined by Madame Mayor of Sefton – Councillor Clare Louise Carragher alongside Homes England and local veterans to unveil a plaque in honour of the site’s history.

The Kings Park development, built by Sovini Construction, includes a mixture of bungalows and two and three-bedroom houses available through Affordable Rent.

In line with the Group’s net-zero carbon commitment and the Future Buildings Standard (2021), the development took a ‘fabric first’ approach. This approach involves maximising performance of components and materials selected during construction, aiming to reduce energy consumption, such as thermal efficiency and running costs. Environmentally efficient specifications can be seen across the new homes, from low carbon heating and sustainable drainage systems to smart meters and charging points for electric vehicles.

The Sovini Group’s Managing Director of Housing, Ian Mitchell said: “We were honoured to commemorate the Kings Regiment and Royal Artillery at our Kings Park development and are thankful to the veterans and Sefton Council who support our vision of a better future. This new scheme has enabled us to create opportunities and change lives for local people, through affordable quality rental properties. We are pleased that our customers are settling into their new homes and look forward to seeing them thrive within our communities for years to come.”
