Legislation and Regulation

There are two acts of legislation that OVH is required to comply with; the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998.

The Equality Act 2010 has replaced previous anti-discrimination laws making the law easier to understand and strengthening protection in some situations.

Under the Equality Act, OVH is required to demonstrate how it meets the Public Sector Equality Duties when exercising public functions to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it
  • Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

The Human Rights Act 1998 is composed of a series of sections that categorise the protections in the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law.

There are 16 basic rights in the Human Rights Act. As you would expect, they concern matters of life and death and cover rights in everyday life, such as what a person can say and do, their beliefs, their right to a fair trial and many other similar basic entitlements.

Investors in Diversity Award 

OVH have been successful in achieving the Investors in Diversity award at stage 2. The award, given by the National Centre for Diversity, is awarded when an organisation strives for excellence in Equality and Diversity. We used this standard to help us demonstrate our culture of openness, understanding and acceptance of all of the people we work with.

Positive about Disabled People

OVH is a Disability Confident Employer (previously know as the Two Ticks’ scheme). The accreditatin is reviewed annually and is recognition from the Jobcentre Plus that One Vision Housing works to meet five commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.
