All in a day’s work
Ann Beckinsale was first referred to One Vision Housing Skills and Employment Officer, Bob Allen by a Neighbourhood Officer. A shining example of why One Vision is so committed to employment, it later transpired that Ann had been unemployed for 24 years. Not surprisingly, this had resulted in a severe lack of confidence and fairly reclusive behaviour.
After a little (a lot of) gentle coaxing, Ann attended one of OVH’s job clubs where Bob worked with her to build up her CV and help with a job search. Ann specified that her ‘dream job’ was to work in a cafe. This is when Bob enlisted the help of partner Sefton@Work who arranged for Ann to complete her Food Safety Certificate.
A few months later and Ann is now working in a busy cafe, talking to dozens of new people every day.
She said: “A year ago, if someone had told me I’d be working in a place like this, I wouldn’t have believed it. The difference this job has made to my life outside work, has been incredible. I’m a lot more confident now and enjoy getting out of the house and talking to different people.”
