New doors open whole new world for Southport tenants
One Vision Housing has completed the installation of 43 new back doors to bungalow properties in Southport – providing tenants with much improved access and safety within their homes.
A number of access ramps have also been installed to provide residents with mobility issues easier access to the rear of their properties – just in time for the summer sun.
The programme was developed in consultation with local Councillor, Cllr Brenda Porter, who initially approached One Vision Housing on behalf of the residents requesting new back doors be installed in the properties.
As it was not part of the planned £200m investment programme currently being undertaken by One Vision Housing across Sefton, the new doors were funded through efficiency savings made in other areas of the programme.
The work was completed by OVH partner Kier as part of wider works within the Southport area.
One of the first tenants to have the work completed was Mr David Fahey, (64) from Rose Crescent, Southport who lives with his wife Yvonne (60) who is a wheelchair user.
Mr Fahey said: “The new door and ramp installed by One Vision Housing has really made a huge difference to my wife and me. Before it was put in we had to leave our home through the front door even if we wanted to sit in the back garden.
“Because my wife uses a wheelchair it was quite a struggle for her and often she would decide just to stay indoors. Now that we have the new door and ramp she can get out easily and enjoy the garden properly.
“I would like to thank One Vision Housing and Cllr Porter for listening to us and making sure this happened.”
Cllr Porter said: "I have known Mr Fahey and other residents in this area for many years and their well-being is important to me. This programme followed on from the installation of rear doors on Sandbrook Road and was much needed both for safety and leisure reasons by giving tenants the opportunity of enjoying their gardens.
“One Vision Housing have been supportive and done an excellent job which I thank them.”
One Vision Housing said: “We were really pleased to be able to install these doors and ramps for Mr Fahey and all the other residents in Southport who requested them.
“The happiness of all our tenants in Southport is extremely important to One Vision Housing and where we can help by going the extra mile we will certainly do everything that we can to achieve this.”
